Awkwafina was an American actor and musician who began her career with innovative raps which addressed sexuality and racial identities with an edgy, comical perspective. Then she branched out to Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants, was her first music experience. She was a trumpet player. Additionally, she was given the classical and jazz education later delving into hip-hop as a teenager. In college, she studied journalism and women's studies. She even spent some time learning Mandarin at the University of Beijing. When she graduated, she started to pursue music as her main focus.
